opps!

I'm still here! My computer was acting out a little last week, in addition to starting a new job, my life has had few spare moments.

I'll try to do an update tonight. Things are still an emotional roller coaster these days.

Perdón?

Our Tuesday ladies bible class began today. The subject: Forgiveness. I believe it is one common trait that all of humanity struggles with, to give and to receive. This illustration was used and I thought I would share.

We were to each bring a clear plastic bag and a sack of potatoes. For every person we'd struggled or refused to forgive in our life, we were told to choose a potato, write the name and date on it and put it in the bag. Some of our bags, as you can imagine were quite heavy.

Then we were told to carry this bag with us everywhere for one week, putting it beside our bed at night, on the car seat when driving, next to our desk at work.

The hassle of lugging this around with us made it clear what a weight we were carrying around spiritually, and how we had to pay attention to it all the time to not forget and keep leaving it in embarrassing places.

Naturally, the condition of the potatoes deteriorated in to a nasty slime. This was another great metaphor for the price we pay for keeping our pain and heavy negativity!

Too often we think of forgiveness as a gift to another person, and while that's true, it clearly is also a gift to ourselves.

Mark Twain has a great quote: Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heal that has crushed it.

So next time you decide you can't forgive someone, ask yourself - Would I rather have the fragrance of the violet or a slimy bag of potatoes!?

Weekend Update (a week late)

Ok, so I'm late with the St. Louis visit, but trust me I have a good excuse. Its been a tough week. I thank everyone for their prayers. Keep them coming!

I spent A LOT of quality time with my parents. In fact I don't think I've spent that much time at home with my parents since before I got my drivers license. But I enjoyed every minute of it. (ok maybe every minute is a bit much, but taken on an hourly average it was good.) (kidding mom and dad, i love you!!!!)

On Friday morning I had coffee and wonderfully uplifting time with my friend Tina. After, my parents and I spent the afternoon in Historic St. Charles Missouri. Cute little town. I was unaware the it was the original state capitol. We ate at the Little Hills Winery and sipped on some of MO's finest red wine. We then headed home, stopping by Glendale's Annual Ice Cream Social. It was fun. I visited with old neighbors and caught up on the latest news (like where the new town stop sign is going. hot stuff i tell ya). Then just to throw in some more calories for the day we went to Ted Drew's. Always a favorite. If you've never been or haven't gone in a while you must go. Best frozen concoctions ever.

Saturday and Sunday were lazy days around the house. We ran a few errands and worked out in the yard. Attended Mid-county church on Sunday. One Saturday stop we made was to North City Church of Christ. They recently purchased a beautiful old catholic church and have begun renovations and plans to turn it into an amazing out reach program. If you are in St. Louis and have a desire to be part of a truly inspiring inner city program defiantly check them out. I pray for their endurance. Its quite a project!

My favorite day was Monday. I got to have lunch with an old friend and her precious, precious daughter. Andrea and I became friends over 14 years ago. Could be longer, but that's as far as I am willing to date myself. We have the typical story, we were great friends, grew a part, re-located to different cities, and joyously reconnected! Andrea, I truly cherished our time together. You have grown into an amazing mother, and beautiful woman inside and out!

Truman traveled like a pro and was a perfect angel all weekend. He even got me upgraded to first class on the way to St. Louis! There are only two dogs allowed in each cabin on the plane. Fortunately, two dogs had already been checked in the coach cabin so the only space left for he and I was in First Class. How cool! He charmed everyone in the cabin and was even offered his own bottled water. Pampered Pooch! And though you might have a tough time getting them to admit it, my parents fell in love with Truman too. They even started referring to each other as Grandma & Grandpa to him! Unfortunately, even though Truman has been house broken for some time he did have two 'accidents' on the carpet. However, now that I think about it, in both cases neither Mom or myself were around and Dad was the only witness....hmmm.

I hope everyone had a great shortened week. God continues to bless my life, and Satan continues to counter attack. I am so encouraged by the notes and messages you all leave. Thanks again.

Always in perfect time.

I just viewed a comment Jim left after he viewed the slide show (see previous post) He watched it at a time when he needed to and thought how great God was with timing. Amen. I then clicked on Dusty's link who directed me to Craig Hick's blog. Go read Craig's blog. Now. Then come back and read on.

Go on. Go. Read.

Wow! Talk about timing. What amazing words that brought me to body shaking sobs.

My anger has destroyed my life. Its cost my everything. Literally. I am on my knees, bare and humble before God.

But, that's the good news! Seriously.

While I am truly brokenhearted and crushed in spirit, my fall has made me cling on to the one true being who can save me. My heavenly Father. My suffering has restored my relationship with Him. I know I have many dark days ahead of me. My faith is being tested second by second. I am hurting in a way there are no words for. In a time where the days are so dark, I have a Light shining down on me. I have received more undeserved blessings this week than I can remember. I have found a new church family. I have reached out to faithful people who I had lost relationships with. I have found a new comfort and power in prayer. I have hope in Christ. I have no idea how things are going to turn out, but I have hope in Him because Christ tells me to. And I believe Him!

I am having a really hard day. I came across Craig's words at a moment when I was about to give in to the loneliness and despair. Gods timing is always perfect. Always.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Jeremiah 29:11

Happy Birthday Sara!!!

Sara,

I thank my God everytime I remember you.
Philippians 1:3

Happy 29th birthday! It's amazing how we've caught up in age!

Seriously, I hope you have a beautiful day with your family. I am blessed to have you as a sister-in-law. Your gentle spirit has always been a wonderful example to me of what a faithful servant you are to God, as a wife, and as a mother. I was always so intimidated of you the first few years of your marriage to my brother, but in the past few years I have truly grown to love and appreciate you as a sister. Thank you for your constant love and support. Have a great cake and candles day!
